Summary of Game Production - Flooded

The game that I have created is for a Storm Water Consulting Company my client has asked for a game that highlights the building side of the game and also the side effects of not raising the house in a high flooding area. This game implements money into the game to have some sort of reward. During the process I had an idea from the start of how my game would work then my client had pitched another idea which was a lot simpler and I had more of an understanding about how it would work.

Client Questioning Process

Darren Rogers

Storm Water Consulting

The questions I had asked my client regarding the development process of the game, were answered on time and in detail he was able to explain to me what he would like to achieve with game and who his target audience would be. If I had a second chance to change some of the questions I asked, I would’ve taken out “What is your company/service name?” as I already knew that as I had visited his website previously. The other question I would’ve taken out was "What are some games you think are successful?" His reply to that was he doesn’t play many games so he doesn’t really know. I asked that question as I knew he had made a game in the past so I thought he would’ve played a few games. Some questions I could’ve added would’ve been more directed towards exactly how the game works. There were some communication errors with understanding what my client actually wanted.

But all in all the questions that I had asked were answered quiet well as asking my client who his target audience would be with the game and had replied with University Students studying civil and environmental engineering that helped me understand to not make the game for little kids and instead making it for University students.

Initial Proposal

Gameplay -
From the question (What type of game would you like and how you would like it to work?) The client has responded with - “I’d like the user to be faced with a selection of locations to build a number of new houses. They build the houses, then a storm hits.” With the game I was thinking of having a trial and error kind of game having there be a couple of different houses so for example a house above the ground that is raised with stilts. Then having a normal house which is built on the ground. Then having the player have choices on where to place the building. Then they can click play to start the game, what will happen is a storm/flood will come over and wash away the house or keep the house just depends on which place you place it on. For example the 500 is for 500 feet above water and so on. So the lower it is more chance to flood. (THIS IS JUST A DRAFT/EXAMPLE JUST TO SEE HOW IT WILL LOOK)

Sound Effects -
The sound effects that will be used is running water or If there is any flood sound effects I will use that to show that there is a flood. The red square symbolises the house and the blue shapes are meant to be the ground. The client has also asked for “Bush / forest sound effects that could played over the game” I will use that for the waiting sound for the player to choose then it will transition to construction sounds then more city like sounds once the house has been built.

Levels -
How the game progresses through levels is that once the first house places and then the flood comes through. Then you get more options to place different objects so for example the first level is a house then the second level is two houses then the third level could be then a road. (The sound could become louder and louder over time.

Any thoughts on how I can change this or make this better or anything to add?

Client Response -

I’m not sure how much detail you need to get into for this game design. If you like, perhaps it would be easier to sit down together and come up with something that meets your assignment criteria.

Regards Darren

Thoughts -
Before the meeting the game idea was completely different, during the meeting my client was giving me ideas for a game I had more of an understanding and what I was doing for the idea my client had pitched instead of the game that I had thought of and had started already. This was the reason for changing my previous idea.
