In the beginning of this task I started by securing a client and thinking about some questions to ask the client in order to help me create a new game. I sent an email to the client and while I waited for the client to reply with feedback I started looking at different tutorials that could possibly help me create my game. Once the client replied I began evaluating the information and drafting a game, I wrote a game proposal to the client and the client agreed that the proposal sounded good. After this I began creating my game complete with levels, starting, level up and losing screens and using Mr. Watson's feedback to improve my game. I think that my game has lots of potential as it is unlike other games and has unique properties but I think it needs lots of improvement.
The client was asked questions that would help mould the game and give the creator guidelines / rules to follow. The questions asked revolved around the logo, the games colour scheme in general, colour scheme of characters & background, sound effects or background music, style of game, name of the game, objective of the game and other important factors.
This questions helped determine that the game would be a platformer style game, have a colourful theme, suggest world peace, be non violent, have soft background music and sounds effects, have colourful characters and that the logo should be bright and eye catching.
The questioning process was not fully successful as the client did not reply in a timely manner and some of the questions received one word answers that were unclear, this made it hard to make certain decisions and resulted in some blind judgements.
After reviewing my client’s feedback I have come to the conclusion that the style of game I will create will be a non-violent platformer game that will convey a lesson of world peace to the player. The game will include scrolling backgrounds, a bright and colourful theme, multiple villain characters, life and point icons and much more. In the background of the game there will be a catchy tune playing that fastens in tempo when the player levels up. When the player makes it to a new level the scrolling screen will become faster moving and harder to keep up with, this will create more pressure so that the player has to really focus to succeed. Players can play against their friends to see who can complete each level and collet the most points and health icons throughout each level. The sound effects will include springing noises when the protagonist jumps and crashing noises when he/she runs into a villain. The name of the game will be “peace of mind” as it is catchy and easy to remember but still subtly suggests happiness.
1. Summary: Not done yet. Think of this like the introduction to an essay. It needs to sum everything else up a little more effectively (as in what you actually did, etc.). 2. Questions: Not too bad so far, and I can see you thinking through the process. It’s supposed to be: a. Some examples of questions which worked well (gave you good information) and gave you design ideas b. Some examples of questions which didn’t work well c. A description of how you developed your ideas from these questions 3. Proposal: Needs images! This is pretty good, but could be a little more detailed, and have paragraphs for structure. You need to include the client’s feedback in another paragraph. 4. Game: Logo animation is excellent, but needs to be centred and after a couple of seconds to go to your start screen. I can see where you’re going with this, and it’s taking shape, but there’s a lot to do yet. I’m assuming you’ll collect the peace signs? That means they’ll have to disappear on collision and add to a score or something. The You Lose only flashes up for a second, as well. Not a bad start.
