Client Questioning Process

Full Of Beans Childcare Centre

I first asked the client about the company name, this gave me the idea to include jelly beans into the title artwork and backgrounds. By asking what they thought would make a successful game, I was able to gather that they wanted the game to be an educational one. However, by asking for a few words to describe the game, the information already received was reiterated.

By directly asking what age the primary audience would be, I of course got a flat answer. Therefore, by asking about what designs or features they wanted I received a much larger, more detailed response. Learning that they want the target to be for a young audience, therefore it had to be simplistic. Although they did not have a strong idea themselves and their answers were somewhat vague I was inspired to create a memory game as they are considered educational and are easy to navigate and learn to play. .

A few questions such as asking how they would describe the business did not help me to gain any further knowledge on what to create. Due to some answers being similar, I also had the problem of repetitive answers. .

Proposal

Match It Up!

Initial Proposal

By the answers provided from the questions, I came up with a child friendly game that will be educational. I will create a memory match game that will be helpful for the children to begin learning the letters to the alphabet. They will also be encouraged to associate the letters to words and pictures that begin with the allocated letter. Memory games have been proven to help with mental and cognitive progression and development, perfect for young children. There will be multiple levels, the first starting with 6 colourful and bright cards. A, B, C, D, E, F and as the levels progress, more cards with harder words will be added to be paired with the letters. images that will be used in the game are shown above.Bubbly electronic music will softly play in the background of the game to fit the mood you are intending. The words used will be simple words such as apple, ball and cat for the first level but they will get more difficult as the levels progress using words like avocado, banana and caterpillar. These types of images will be used on the same side of the card as the word to help with associating the words with the image.

I however realised after that this proposal that they agreed to initially would be too intense for someone as young at five, without parental help it would be extremely confusing. After negotiating with my client and teacher I proposed that I instead would create a game where the letter will appear in text then the child will have to pick the images that start with the letter written. The premise of the game still stands however, with being an educational game to help teach young children the alphabet.

FEEDBACK

Mr Watson

Draft Feedback

1. Summary: Not done yet. Think of this like the introduction to an essay. It needs to sum everything else up a little more effectively (as in what you actually did, etc.).

2. Questions: Not too bad so far, and I can see you thinking through the process. It’s supposed to be:

a. Some examples of questions which worked well (gave you good information) and gave you design ideas

b. Some examples of questions which didn’t work well

c. A description of how you developed your ideas from these questions

3. Proposal: Needs images! This is pretty good, and shows your process well, but you could describe your new concept more thoroughly. You need to include the client’s feedback in another paragraph.

4. Game: Logo animation is excellent, although I think it needs to be on a separate layout to your start screen, because when you go back to it the logo animation plays again. Either that or set a variable for “logo played”. I love the levels concept, and the instructions are good, but remember they’re for very young kids!!! I think this is actually a very good game, and it’ll be enhanced by cute music, sound effects, etc.
